ACTIVITIES WITHIN THE IYC

20.08.2005

Conductor, reporter: Kadi Grichin

In order to give You some overview what IYC is and what International Youth Committee has done so far, the "IYC Activities Report" was read.

Kadi: I’ll send all documents mentioned here: the Youth Forum Guide and the Activities report to your e-mail address later on, so You can share it with all the others who are interested in understanding what is the IYC about.

As a start for those ones, who are presenting their organization here for the first time, I kindly ask you to choose the representative among you who is the IYC contact person in Your country and whose address we add to the yahoo-group list.

Also everybody here, please check the participation list if we have your correct address. And whenever it should change, let me know.

Secondly about the country reports – it is really important, that you send us - to me or to Leticia the report that I explained about earlier. We hear and discuss many things during the youth forums, but when we go back home, one can easily forget what was special in the blood donation in Singapore, Finland or Lithuania. So, make sure, that you put together a written report, so that everybody can look at our website when it is ready.

About the web - www.youthblood.org is not ready to use yet, because we have a volunteer who is supposed to make it work, so it takes time… If some of you is able to help to fasten this process, please let us know. When the page is ready, please check it and make your suggestions, how to improve it. Send your pictures to the gallery, come up with some projects, update the data about your representative etc.

That is what we have done so far, any ideas what to do for now on?

I personally suggest that we could do something on the same day, running for example.

/Discussion followed about the way and time to do it – should we connect it with the World Blood Donor Day or not. In some countries there are enough activities on that day anyway, so there was suggested to do it on another day, we have enough energy to do more… In the other places World Blood Donor Day is still something that people do not know about yet, so international running would be a good way to make it noticed more widely. We should start to do some things properly and then when we have succeeded, to come up with something new, for example do that kind of running also some other day. /

PROPOSITION FOR THE PROJECT: Blood run – On the same day in all countries we will run in the donor t-shirts and promote the blood donation. This year we do it on the Sunday, 11th of June before the World Blood Donor Day in order to do disclosure also the World Blood Donor Day on 14th of June, when there are all kind of other activities happening.

Italy offered to make to the IYC common T-shirts for that.

What to put on the T-shirt? We vote tomorrow about the draft of the posters done in the yesterday’s workshop and put the best one in the T-shirt.

Can we do something else?

Circle of blood donation - Singapore will start in 10 in the morning, European countries follow and Brazil will end the circle – we are giving blood for the whole day and make a big event of that. Should we do it on 14th of June or on some other day, not decided yet.

SUMMARY: During the youth forums we are always willing to do all kind of activities. It often happens, that the energy stops right after the forum and we come together only on the next forum and continue to discuss. I’m sure you understand it is not the most effective way of dealing with things… So please, don’t lose your energy but do your best to continue the discussion via e-mails also between the forums! Whenever you have an idea, put it in the paper and write down to our e-mail addresses so we can follow up the great ideas started in the forum, ok!
