5th International Youth Forum

Estonia, 2005

Plenary report, 21.08.2005

Kadi Grichin: The 5th International Youth Forum is unfortunately coming to end… Let me thank you all for the great and active work you have done in these past few days. It was a great joy to have you all here and get to know personally. So I would thank You from my heart both on the official and personal level!

We do not have enough time to sum up here all the things discussed on the workshops, but I will send you all the reports afterwards – not right away, though, because I am kind of busy getting married and everything… J I also send the Youth Forum Guide on your e-mail address later on, so everybody can start to think about hosting the youth forum in the future. Feel free to send all the reports to the people in your organization and others who are interested in the blood donation.

We were really pleased to have new representatives in the youth forum so I hope for the future, that Finland, Wales and Singapore will stay with us! For the all representatives – both elected ones and those, still to be elected by the national organization, make sure, that I as a secretary get the correct e-mail address of you! Whenever it should change, let me know so we do not lose contact with you!

I also ask for you one more time to write down your country reports about the blood donation situation and the way your organization is doing in order to put them to our web page if it is ready.

As you know, in one of the workshops we came up with some concrete activities that we could do for now on. It is meant to be both for our co-operation with IFBDO-s activities and to do something together with the people in IYC: Blood run and circle of blood donation. On the same day in all countries we will run or give blood in the donor t-shirts and promote the blood donation. For that we need to have common t-shirts. Now you all have seen the posters and to think what would be the most suitable slogan and/or picture for our IYC t-shirt. Italy kindly offered to make the t-shirts with the selected picture and slogan. So let us vote.

RESULT: The winner is poster with 3 blood types: A Or B

We have now discussed so many great things. But let us continue the synergy we experienced here also after the forum! Let’s write to each other and continue the discussions via e-mail! We can do more than just participate on the forums, right!

Niels Mikkelsen
: I would also thank for the great forum the Estonian delegation, especially Katre, Kadi and Marko who have taken such a good care of us and have lead this wonderful and really interesting forum! We are proud of you! The next year organizers have to make a good effort to keep it on the same level. When the Youth forums first started, the old people from FIODS had a great part of organizing everything. For now me and Jean-Marie really were just guests, observers and did not have anything to do with making everything to go in the right way. And this is a perfect way the Youth Forum should be held, so keep on going on that direction. And help with to organize the forum in Tunisia and start to do some preparations to make sure that you can come there!

From behalf of FIODS I would also offer you that you as young and active persons are very welcome to stay for some time an see how things work in my office in Copenhagen as Leticia has done for a couple of months.

Thank you again for the kind words and your contribution to the blood donation!

Now the forum is ended. Let us take the last group pictures outside of the building.

Hope to see you all soon!
