Dear members of FIODS,

 

Since 1999 I am acting as your Treasurer General. During all our meetings, both with the Executive Board as well as during our General Assemblies, I sincerely enjoyed being with people from around the world who shared the principles of FIODS. It is my intention to be with all of you for many more years to come and see our activities prosper.

On the other hand we only can maintain those activities with a sound financial basis. As you will understand this is the reason of my letter.

Last year 14 from 44 countries paid their contributions for 2002. In money terms I am talking about 47% of contributions paid (that means that the high bracket contributions are paid hence the percentage is higher). Happily enough, another Euro. 4.000 came in last year from contributions due from former years. All in all income in 2002 was generally the same as the outgoing flow. In normal years that will not be so.

The conclusion is that we are eroding our capital base. If we do not get more discipline in paying our dues it is inevitable that no more money can be spent in the future on extra’s like magazines or other special projects such as trips to countries were we are invited for lectures etc.etc..

Only one country has asked me to lower their contribution, while we all agreed that I should be contacted if a country is unable to pay.

We should carefully consider if FIODS could continue in this way during our upcoming meeting in Morocco in May. I also prefer to speak about blood related issues but without raising this important topic we may soon be unable to meet at all in the foreseeable future.

I hope you all understand that in the current situation I am unable to present you with a budget for 2003. Decisions on this subject will be taken in the meeting of the Executive Board preceding our General Assembly.
